Reiki Healing for Self Care

We are deep into the long cold days of winter. The holiday season is a distant memory and 2023 stretches out in front of us with limitless opportunities and possibilities. The beginning of a new year is a great opportunity to reassess what goals or objectives to focus on.


There are the common goals, to eat healthier, go to the gym more regularly or get into shape. Few of us, myself included, think about goals pertaining to our mental or spiritual life. Women in particular are very good at thinking of others before themselves. We wear many hats, and have many roles, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, employee, employer, entrepreneur and on and on.


I had an opportunity to spend a day with a group of women, ranging in age from late 20’s to mid 60’s at a wellness retreat just outside of Ottawa. Some were there for connection with like-minded women, while others it was time away from their responsibilities. The day was filled with yoga, good food, laughter, lots of conversations and tears.


The common theme that came out of the conversations I had that day was, self-care. Women are very good and comfortable with putting the needs of others before their ours, they often lose themselves in the roles and responsibilities their have (mother, daughter, caregiver etc.), they are more critical of themselves and their imperfections and shortcomings then they are of others and they are quick to give to others leaving them depleted and exhausted. I was as much at fault as any of the other women. Even though I have grown children that have their own homes, I still find myself going above and beyond when one or both of them reach out needing or looking for something.


Reiki can help to reduce stress and increase relaxations. It also can help to improve; mood, general well-being, sleep, lower anxiety and blood pressure and can help with pain management.


When you find yourself feeling depleted, stressed, anxious or lack energy a 30- or 60-minute session can help get you back on the road to feeling yourself again.
